Morocco’s Jamal Al-Salami, the Jordan coach, said the fear of the opening game that dominated his players on their first appearance at the World Cup has disappeared, underlining his confidence in his team’s ability to deliver a much-needed performance against Algeria tomorrow, Tuesday.
Jordan opened their World Cup campaign with a 3-1 loss to Austria, while Algeria lost 3-0 to Argentina courtesy of Lionel Messi.
Al-Salami said in statements published by the media. Reuters Network “We know that the fear of the first match is behind us now. The players are more confident in their abilities.”
He added: “Now they are calmer and more confident that they will give their best on the field.”
Jamal Al-Salami has warned against drawing too many conclusions from Argentina’s defeat to Algeria.
He commented: “They played against world champions. The Algerian team is strong in attack, fast and has important players even among the substitutes.”
The performance on the field is more important than the result
Despite the importance of the match and the prospect of an emotional Arab showdown, Al-Salami stressed that the way Jordan played was more important to him than the result itself, pointing to the great discipline his players showed against Austria.
He said: “We didn’t get any yellow cards and that shows the positive spirit in our group.”
He added: “More important than the result or anything else is the performance on the field, showing an honorable character for the star players.”
He concluded, “Off the field we are brothers and we love each other and this match will embody the spirit of Arabism between brothers.”
