The Egyptian star raises Hossam Hasan’s worries against New Zealand

Egypt coach Hossam Hassan suffered a painful knock during the 2026 World Cup Group G second round match against New Zealand at the BC Place Stadium today, Monday.

New Zealand took the lead in the 15th minute after Finn Surman completed a perfect pass in the penalty area and headed it past goalkeeper Mustafa Schubert, taking advantage of Egypt’s lack of defensive control.

The Pharaohs’ suffering did not stop with the delay of the result as Hamdi Fathi was injured during the first half events, specifically in the 41st minute, asking to leave and not continue the match.

Immediately, Hossam Hasan decided to make a hasty substitution, taking off Hamdi Fathi and replacing him with defender Rami Rabia.

The two teams enter this clash looking for their first win of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after each of them settled for a point in the opening round.

The Egyptian team started their tournament with a 1-1 draw against Belgium, and the New Zealand team drew 2-2 with Iran in the first round.
