Nottingham Open: Mari Bozkova beats Emma Navarro to win title

Mari Bozkova overcame an ankle injury to beat Emma Navarro to win her first grass-court singles title at the Nottingham Open.

Czech fourth seed Bauzkova twice had to undergo injury treatment but defeated the American 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 6-2.

It was the 27-year-old’s second title of the year after winning the clay-court event in Bogotá in April.

Bozkova twice led Navarro into breaks in the first set but was held back by the former world number eight.

However, serving 6-5 0-30 down, Buzkova took a medical timeout after landing awkwardly on her right ankle.

He played and recovered to deuce for his serve but there was another long delay after a medical problem in the crowd.

After losing a close tie-breaker, Navarro reset to win the second set, but the first break in the decider was enough for Bozkova to seal her fourth career singles title.

Bauzkova wished her father a happy Father’s Day in her court speech after flying to watch her victory.
