Wigan Warriors scored 13 tries as they hammered York Knights 72-20 in the Betfred Super League with hat-tricks from Noah Hodgkinson and Jai Field.

Adam Keighran converted seven of Wigan’s tries, one of them himself at the LNER Community Stadium.

Their struggling opponents saved themselves from a shutout with four late tries.

York coach Mark Applegarth is under increasing pressure following his side’s 11th defeat in 12 matches.

Responding to speculation about his future, he said: “I think in the elite game you always have that.

“All you can do is control what you can control. I’ve always been that way. Some years you’re flying high and things are going well, but other years you have to accept that you’re in the trenches.”

Despite the win, Wigan coach Matt Peat said: “You can’t take it away from the lads that they were quite ruthless at times and we got the speed and skill of the game and the lads were confident.

“I just thought when it was time to defend, I thought we could have done a little better.”

Catalan Dragons survive Bradford Bulls fightback to win 34-24 in 11-try Betfred Super League clash in Perpignan

The Catalan Dragons secured their third win in four with a 34-20 victory over Bradford Bulls.

The French side went ahead in the opening 40 minutes with tries from Jacques Lipowicz, Josh Allen, Julian Busquet and Solomona Fatap.

The Bulls then clawed their way back into the contest with two tries, but it wasn’t enough to secure a six-try victory for the Dragons.

Dragons coach John Cartwright said: “The thing I liked most about it was the potential of the team.

“I don’t think we’ve come anywhere close in my short time here, but we keep finding ways to win and if we can get some steel on defense, we’ve definitely got a good team here.”
