The Eagles of Carthage are the first Arab team to bid farewell to the World Cup
The Tunisian national team officially bid farewell to the 2026 World Cup after a brutal 4-0 defeat by Japan in a game that sent them into the second round of the Group Six tournament, the 1,000th World Cup appearance in history.
Tunisia went into the game with the motto that there is no substitute for victory after a 5-1 defeat by Sweden in the opening round, but the Japanese side struck an early blow against the Eagles of Carthage with a goal from Daichi Kamada in the fourth minute.
The Tunisian players protested the goal, claiming that there was a push by Kamada before the kick, but the referee decided to recognize it as valid.

The Tunisian team could not create a real threat to Japan’s goal, and the “Samurais” established control for most of the game, taking advantage of the technical differences and great confidence shown by their players.
It was Tunisia’s second consecutive defeat at the tournament after they started their journey with a 5-1 defeat to Sweden, leaving their score frozen at zero points and officially losing any chance of progressing to the next round until the finals.
The match also marked a disappointing start for France coach Hervé Renard, who took over from Sabri Lamouchi a few days ago to try and save the Tunisian national team from the World Cup.
On the other hand, the Japanese team increased their chances of qualifying for the next round after increasing their score to 4 points, confirming their advantage in the historic 1000th game of the World Cup finals.
