Lottie Wade was within a shot of advancing to the final round of the Major LPGA Classic, the final event before the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
The Englishwoman carded seven birdies and three bogeys during a four-under 68 at Blythefield Country Club to move to 13 under, matching playing partner Jing Yan’s total.
Ian took advantage of the final closing-five to post his fourth birdie of the day and record his second bogey-free round to keep him in the lead as he chases a first LPGA Tour title.
Wade won the LPGA Tour’s Kroger Queen City Championship last month and is ready to challenge for a second win in three starts, although he is keen to iron out mistakes ahead of his final round pairing with Ian.
“I’ve been on a few final teams now and it’s gone my way a few times,” Wade said. “I think just trying to get a good start, go ahead and push early and just keep pushing, that’s what we’re going to try to do.
“If I need to make birdies, I need to make a few less bogeys. I feel like I rolled it pretty well on the greens. Just going to try and give myself, I guess more chances and hopefully just hold some putts.”
Australia’s Casey Porter is two strokes back after a third-round 69, with Wei-Ling Hu, Ying Ji Chun and Yan Liu all four behind Yan at 10 under.
“I just tried to enjoy it,” Ian said. “I knew I was going to be a little nervous because I hadn’t really been in this position before. I was on the next tee time and there were times when I didn’t handle it very well, so I’m just trying to figure out what really works for me.”
Charlotte Heath of England shot a bogey-free 67 to take a two-shot lead into the final round of the Dutch Ladies Open.
The Ladies European Tour rookie carded five birdies in her second round at Goyer Golf and Country Club, moving her to eight under par with Lee-Anne Paes, Sophie Witt and Harong Lee.
Heath – starting on the back nine – rolled in his first birdie on the 16th and made further inroads on the first and fourth before adding gains at the seventh and ninth to double his advantage.
“I had very good ball striking – I didn’t really hit many long putts, all were within 10 feet,” Heath said. “I don’t think I’ll do anything different tomorrow. It’s another round of golf and that’s how I’ll do it.”
