Sad news
Manchester United legend Mark Hughes has mourned the death of his son Alex, who died suddenly at the age of 38, sending a wave of grief across British football circles.
According to an official statement released by the Premier League Managers Association (LMA), Hughes and his family expressed their deep sadness, saying: “Jill and I are deeply saddened by the sudden and unexpected loss of our beloved son Alex.”
“Alex was a wonderful son, brother to Curtis and Xena, and a devoted husband and father to Jessica and their two beautiful children, Sebastian and Leonardo,” the statement read.
Alex was a leader in player recruitment at Grimsby Town Football Club where he was well respected by his colleagues and friends throughout the football community.
The statement concludes: “He had many good friends and colleagues. We will all miss him dearly. We ask for privacy at this sad time.”
The statement did not reveal the cause of the sudden death, as messages of condolence poured in from British clubs and football figures to Hughes’ family.
Notably, Mark Hughes is considered one of the legends of Manchester United, with whom he won two Premier League titles and three FA Cup titles, before embarking on a successful coaching career at several English clubs.
