The Kuwait Football Association has made a unique gesture to Somali referee Omar Artan after he was denied a place in the 2026 World Cup, which is currently being held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Artan was unable to appear at the World Cup after he was banned from entering the United States of America, allegedly for security reasons.
The Kuwaiti Federation announced through its account on the “X” website that Omar Artani was assigned to manage the match between “Kuwait” and “Al-Qadisiya”, which is scheduled to be held on June 29.
He explained that Artan’s appointment was based on the official invitation of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Yousef Al-Sabah, President of the Kuwait Federation, which was quickly approved and widely accepted by the Somali Federation.
A statement from the Kuwaiti federation noted that its Somali counterpart greatly appreciated this brotherly initiative, stressing that it reflects the depth of the bonds of friendship and mutual trust and will significantly contribute to the strengthening of sports relations between the two countries.
The match between Al-Kuwait and Al-Qadisiya will be a special occasion as it will witness the Kuwaiti club being crowned with the local league title.
The European Football Association sympathized with Omar Artan and assigned him to manage the European Super Cup match between “Paris Saint-Germain” and “Aston Villa”.
