Moves of the Diamond Hand is a timeless, action-packed, dice-based RPG


From the first moments, Diamond Hand Movement it is ahead of what it offers: You will have many unusual conversations, and you will roll many dice. Enter these thoughts, and the reward is one of the most creative games I’ve seen in years, even if many of its mysteries won’t be solved until 2027.

Diamond Hand Movement is an Early Access video game available on PC, macOS, and steamOS (including Steam Deck, where I played) from musician and game designer Cosmo D. The game looks like a 2000s-first RPG or immersive sim: the environment is grim, harsh, and closed; the shape of the characters is stretched on the heads slightly flattened on their faces; a mesmerizing melody permeates everywhere. You will arrive on the train and immediately you will meet an old adviser, disgraced by political affairs. You express your desire to join the powerful group called Circus X, then explain several different ways you can take it in its cage – you can try to join the city council, but you can get equal success making a good sandwich or joining the best club.

These options help start the middleware. The game gives you one die that you can change into seven stats, from the standard fare like Physique and Observation to the amazing Cooking and Music. To place a challenge, it rolls a die equal to one of those requirements, and you must match or beat it with your roll.

Once you get out of the train station, the challenges pile up quickly. There are tons of mini-games including cooking, playing music, hiding clothes, and mixing cocktails – all of which add extra dice with unique challenges. You can also roll the dice in the same way as in Yahtzee, triggering an encounter strategy each time you encounter it, and your final score (win or lose) is converted into experience. The basic system was introduced in the last game of Cosmo D, Betrayal at Club Lowbut in a consistent and beautiful form; Diamond Hand it feels like its evolution. It’s all a little scary at first. But the game allows you to choose what to do, which happens quickly, because you’re doing everything and exchanging words from making small talk to opening a door. There is an opportunity to profit from all of this, without falling into the trap. Some rolls may be impossible to win or lose at a given level, but it’s possible to still damage your health or have an unacceptable level of damage and safety issues, preventing them from being sustainable. You can retry most moves if you fail, but it’s harder the second time you try, so there’s a lot of practice in choosing the right time to jump first. The level of danger makes even the simplest environments fun and exciting – it goes against the popular desire of RPGs to rush through the details of the environment and sweet words while focusing on the “reality” of the game.

Through countless reviews of skills, you will have a unique view of the game world. The city, Off-Peak City, is a beautiful city made up of bad business, crooked politicians, and crooked workers, as well as musicians, restaurants, and underground organizers – a neon retro-future of street performers. What would be a niche skill in any other game proves extremely powerful here. When you’re looking for membership, you’re in a close choice between a tough guy, a former boy band guy, and a mayor’s union leader from years ago. Instead of the Maltese Falcon, everyone is conspiring to control Big Mouth Billy Bass. And interspersed in the scene is the mysterious Diamond Hand, often hinted at but never explained.

Diamond Hand‘s story brings parallels to the world, but as a jumping off point for something rich and alive in itself. In perhaps the most obvious example, the Off-Peak City company is creating a space full of artists, instead of the traditional artists who have the protection of the industry. old media regurgitations. But instead of stopping the comments, the game moves this to explore the idea that the clones are also conscious people who are frustrated by their creative limits and lack of independence, while allowing the characters to show their relationship with the nose and taste of art.
