World Cup 2026: Sibling rivals line up for different teams in USA, Canada and Mexico

It is the ultimate test for any parent.

Two boys are playing on opposite teams in a match. Who are you rooting for?

But it’s not a local park or school match. It’s a World Cup game.

There are four siblings playing for different countries on the biggest stage, including Dzire and Guella Du who could face each other this summer.

Born in the French city of Angers to a French mother and an Ivorian father, the brothers played for Paris Saint-Germain and Strasbourg respectively.

They have taken different paths in international football, with two-time Champions League winner Dzire, 21, turning out for France and overlapping full-back Guella, who plays for the Ivory Coast.

“We tell each other everything and there are no secrets,” Dzire told French soccer program Telefoot about his relationship with his older brother.

“She is a huge support for me in my daily life.”

But their close ties can be tested in the United States?

If France are runners-up in Group I and Ivory Coast are runners-up in Group E, the pair will face each other in the last-32 stage on June 30 in Arlington, Texas.

When Ivory Coast defeated France 2–1 in a pre-World Cup friendly on 4 June, Guella sang the national anthems of both countries before the match.

Dzire was an unused substitute after winning the Champions League for PSG five days earlier.

“It’s a shame I couldn’t play against (my brother), because it was our first France-Ivory Coast match, but I’m happy, and he’s not too upset,” Guella said later.

There has only been one before Siblings fight against each other in the World Cup,, outsider And it happened in back-to-back tournaments.

In 2010, Germany’s Jerome Boateng faced Ghana’s older half-brother Kevin Prince in Johannesburg. Germany won 1-0 Four years later, the pair were on opposite sides again in Brazil when group play ended 2-2.
