In the end, it was the try-scoring high that convinced Grace to continue.
“It’s a bit addictive because the feeling of playing and scoring goals is something you want to feel again and again,” Wing said.
“One day I’ll be too old to even think about doing it again, so I’d give everything to come back.
“I am confident that I will be back to my best. I have rehabbed with some of the best in the world and know what I need to do and where I need to get to.”
Grace is a realist. His medical record adds to the challenge, but his goal is to prove he deserves a shot, whether in the league or the union.
“I just want to get to a point where I feel strong and confident before I even start thinking about talking to anyone,” says Grace, who works out three times a week with the cell’s staff in addition to her own gym routine.
“I don’t want to go to a club when I’m not fit. I want to be able to hit the ground running, or at least be ready to do a pre-season.
“The reason I said I was going to leave straight away after the injury was because I didn’t want to let anyone down.
“If someone spends time, effort and money on you, it’s terrible when you don’t deliver what’s expected.
“I feel I let the clubs down because I was willing to give 100% for them but I wasn’t physically able.”
