The deal to bring young Egyptian striker Hamza Abdel Karim to Barcelona faces a sudden legal crisis as the 18-year-old continues to grab headlines and attention with the start of the 2026 World Cup.
In recent months, the former Al-Ahly striker has been living in an unexpected scenario as he struggled. At the beginning of 2026 to convince his club Al-Ahly to end his loan to Barcelona. He quickly adapted to the Catalan club’s youth team and began to score goals in abundance, a jump in quality that opened up for him Egypt’s first national team to participate in the World Cup, where he actually played his first minutes at the world’s biggest event.
The Spanish “Sport” newspaper reports.Al-Kom Al-Ahmar club has filed an official complaint with the Egyptian Football Association, which has sparked controversy in the Egyptian sports circles in recent days in response to the developments surrounding the footballer who is living his big football dream.
He noted that Al-Qum Al-Ahmar’s director of football, Diaa Bahjat, demanded that his club receive its legitimate percentage of Hamza’s transfer fee from Al-Ahly to Barcelona under the sponsorship and solidarity mechanism, stressing that the player had previously played for the club.
Bahjat stated. “The player’s registration is fully legal and valid and bears the signature of the player and his father in addition to the father’s fingerprint.”
Bahgat has confirmed that his club are committed to acquiring a percentage of the €1.5 million agreed between Barcelona and Al-Ahly to complete the deal, while stressing that he is not seeking to do any damage to the player’s professional career.
“Hamza Abdel Karim is like my younger brother, but we have to protect the club’s rights and we have the right to do so under the Football Association’s statutes.”
Al-Qum Al-Ahmar Youth Center released an official statement calling for the player to be respected and ensure that his focus during the World Cup competition with Egypt is not affected in an attempt to avoid media excitement and controversy surrounding the financial demands of Hamza’s deal.
Hamza Abdel Karim is set to move to Barcelona’s reserve team under manager Billy, with the plan to allow him to train under the watchful eye of head coach Hansi Flick, following a short spell with the youth team, which bodes well for the player’s future and continued development this year.
