Wyndham Clarke leads the US Open by four shots at the halfway point, but Matt Fitzpatrick and Xander Schaffel are among the former major champions in the chasing pack.

Clark posted a 36-hole score of seven-under par at Shinnecock Hills on Friday after he followed up a weather-delayed 64 with a one-under 69 on Friday, leaving him poised to challenge for his second major win in four years.

The 2023 champion walks out with Fitzpatrick in the final group, starting at 8.45pm UK time, with Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler both seven shots behind and looking to get off to a fast start in their third round.

McIlroy endured a rollercoaster day two as he carded three straight bogeys, two birdies and a double bogey on the back nine for a one-over 71, as Scheffler – chasing a career Grand Slam – posted a 68 in the second round.
