Atlas Lions continues to innovate
In the second round of the 3rd group, the Moroccan team beat their Scottish counterpart with a clean goal scored by Ismail Sibari in the 69th second, adding to their African record in the World Cup.
The Atlas Lions extended their unbeaten run in the World Cup group stage to 6 consecutive matches (3 wins and 3 draws), surpassing the previous African record shared equally by Cameroon (5 matches between 1982 and 1990) and Senegal (5 matches between 2002 and 2002).
Sibari etched his name into the tournament records by scoring the second-fastest goal by an African team in World Cup history, just one second behind Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan, who scored after 68 seconds against the Czech Republic in 2006.
Saibari’s goal also became Morocco’s fastest in a major tournament in 17 years, when Sofiane Alloudi scored after 59 seconds against Namibia at the 2009 Africa Cup of Nations.
Goalscorer Ibrahim Diaz excelled to become the first African player to score twice in his first two games for his country at a World Cup finals, continuing his decisive influence at major tournaments.
The Real Madrid star has an amazing record of attacking contributions with Morocco in the international forums, as he has contributed 7 goals in just 9 games (5 goals and 2 assists) and the Atlas Lions have not tasted defeat in a game in which Diaz has been decisive.
Notably, Morocco lead Group C with 4 points, continuing their promising progress in the tournament after a positive draw with Brazil in the opening round.
🇲🇦 Morocco have not lost any of their 6 World Cup group stage games (3 wins, 3 draws), the best unbeaten run by an African country ahead of Cameroon (5 between 1982 and 1990) and Senegal (5 between 2002 and 2018). #MARSCO:
