Shame on the administration
Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez of Argentina enjoys widespread support from Barcelona players to join the Catalan club, given the sport’s management’s interest in signing him next season.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo report that Xavi, Dani Olmo, Pau Cobarse, Ronald Araujo and Marc Bernal have all expressed their enthusiasm for the idea of joining the 26-year-old Argentine forward in a rare dressing room consensus.
Xavi was the latest to make statements on the subject during Spain’s national team camp, as he said in an interview with RAC1 radio when asked about a World Cup player he would like to include, Julian Alvarez, without hesitation, praising his enthusiasm and competitive spirit.
For his part, Pau Cobarci described the Argentinean player as a world-class striker at the level of “Barcelona”, emphasizing in statements given to the newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” that “we all know how skilled he is” and emphasizing the difficulty of facing him;
Ronald Araujo was the most enthusiastic in his praise of Alvarez, as he told Mundo Deportivo: “For me he is one of the best strikers in the world and the best should be with us,” in statements that did not go down well with Atletico Madrid.
Marc Bernal also openly defended the idea when asked during a quick Q&A with the ARA newspaper: “I will sign Julian Alvarez,” while Dani Olmo hinted that “any addition that strengthens the team and raises its level will always be welcome.”
This consensus is also evident in a poll conducted by Mundo Deportivo, where 36.32% of the club’s members voted for Alvarez as the best potential signing for next season.
Admiration for Alvarez is not limited to Barcelona players, but has also extended to Spain coach Luis de la Fuente who, when asked on Radio Kobe during the World Cup about a player he would choose from another team, said:
However, Alvarez’s inclusion looks like a complicated deal as the player is contracted to Atletico Madrid until June 2030 with a release clause of €500m, making any further negotiations very difficult.
Notably, Barcelona’s sporting administration is convinced that Alvarez is a guaranteed option to strengthen the attacking line, especially after there was a clear consensus in the dressing room about his quality and ability to make a difference in big matches.
