The coach of the Tunisian national team, French coach Herve Renard, refused to talk about any scenario other than victory against Japan in the second round of the 2026 World Cup group stage tomorrow, Sunday.

“If we’re not thinking about winning tomorrow, we’d better go home from now on,” a resolute message that reflected the pressure on the Carthage Eagles after their first loss to Sweden.

Renard hinted at the possibility of adjustments to the starting line-up, stressing that all players are on high alert and waiting for their opportunity, without revealing the identity of the participants.

The French coach declined to elaborate on potential absences from the Samurai Blues, believing that Japan’s real strength lies in the homogeneity of the group and the closeness of the players.

For his part, team captain Elias Al-Sakhiri acknowledged the difficulty of the task facing a Japanese team characterized by tactical discipline and team spirit, but he emphasized his teammates’ willingness to fight with all their strength, noting that World Cup matches are open to all possibilities.

Al-Sakhiri did not shirk responsibility for the mistake made in the previous game that led to Sweden’s third goal, stressing that he had one option: to make amends in the next game instead of avoiding responsibility.

Sunday’s clash is Tunisia’s last chance to revive its qualification chances after losing to Sweden (1-5) in the first round.
