Ireland captain Kelan Dorris says he will get the injury that forced him off the field early against Leinster. 36-7 Victory over the Pretoria Bulls in the United Rugby Championship final “checked out”.
The retired back-row batsman made the starting line-up for the decider just seven minutes into the Croke Park clash, having sufficiently recovered from a knee injury sustained in the team’s semi-final win over the Stormers.
The sight of Dorris recovering from injury will be a cause for concern for Ireland coach Andy Farrell in the Nations Championship opener against Australia in Sydney, just two weeks away.
Ireland also face Japan on July 11 and New Zealand a week later.
Dorries was replaced by Ireland team-mate Jack Conan, who scored one of his side’s five tries as they became the first team to claim back-to-back league titles, signing off with both wins over the Bulls.
“I was optimistic about my knee and my knee was fine, it was actually something else, so we’ll check it later,” Dorris told Premier Sports after the game.
The number eight praised his squad over last month’s European Champions Cup final loss to Bordeaux-Bagles, beating their South African counterparts in Dublin on Friday.
“To see us physically up front, it goes a long way to beat the bulls,” he said.
“From a big disappointment a few weeks ago, we’re very proud of the whole organization for how we’ve turned the page and had a special day here.
“We had an unbelievable start to the game and you could see the physicality the boys were into and it went a long way towards the win.”
