Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has spoken positively about a new deal.
The 47-year-old led the Sky Blues to promotion to the Premier League last season, winning the Championship title in the process.
But his existing contract expires at the end of the following season, and Lampard’s success at Coventry has seen his stock rise significantly and attract interest from other clubs. including Fulham.
However, talks over a new deal are ongoing at the Midlands club and it has been described as positive amid hopes a final deal can be reached before the start of the new campaign.
Speaking after Coventry’s promotion in April, Lampard said:“There is a lot of work to be done as we know the steps it will take for the football club.
“It’s something we have to work on quickly now because of where we are. We have to be ambitious. I know what the Premier League is and it’s going to be a challenge. We can enjoy the moment for the next two weeks but of course we have to work behind the scenes so that we go in the right direction.”
Lampard replaced Mark Robbins as Sky Blues manager in November 2024 when the club were 17th in the Championship, just two points above the relegation zone.
Coventry won 16 of their remaining 29 matches in the Championship that season, finishing fifth and earning a place in the play-offs. In the end they lost 3-2 on aggregate Sunderland In the play-off semi-finals.
Lampard then led them to the Championship title, winning 28 matches – the most Coventry have managed in a league season – and ending a 25-year wait for top-flight football.
The former England midfielder began his managerial career at Derby County, before a spell Chelsea (twice) and Everton.
