The British Transport Police are responding to reports of a collision between two trains in an area of ​​north London, with media reports saying that the ‘major incident’ has left several people injured.

“We are responding to a collision between two trains in the Bedford area,” transport police said on X Friday, referring to the market town 90 kilometers north of the capital.

Unconfirmed footage posted on social media shows two East Midlands Railway (EMR) trains colliding, one running into the other, and passengers being filmed standing on the tracks next to the damaged tracks.

The trains appear to be upright on the track, according to the photos posted.

“Emergency services are dealing with the incident between London St Pancras and Leicester,” the EMR said on X, without giving details.

The Daily Telegraph and TalkTV are among the British media outlets to report that passengers were injured in the incident.

But emergency workers did not report any injuries.

The East of England Ambulance Service said it had dispatched multiple services, including an air ambulance, to the rail collision south of Bedford, ⁠ and urged people to avoid ⁠the area.

Transport Minister Heidi Alexander wrote on X that she was “deeply concerned” by reports of the accident.

Bedfordshire Fire and ⁠Rescue Service said crews were at a railway event in south Bedford and asked people to evacuate.

Train operator EMR said it was unable to run services in or out of London for the rest of the day, while Thameslink said all lines between Luton and Bedford were closed due to the problem being investigated.

Train collisions are rare in the United Kingdom.
