Champions Cup semi-finals: Bath embrace Bordeaux test to build legacy

Yet the Champions Cup is an elusive prize for Bath.

It’s almost 30 years since they last won the trophy, in 1998 – when it was the Heineken Cup – and another 20 years since they last reached this stage, in the 2006 semi-final which they lost to Biarritz.

Memories of a Bath side dominating English rugby in the 1990s but, as Lawrence said, this is a side looking to create its own legacy.

“Johan talked to us (about) as a team, as a club, we’re trying to make our own history, but it all starts one game at a time,” said Lawrence.

“We go back to zero every week, we never think about what’s going to happen for a few months and at the start of the season we wanted to do well in this competition – but it started with that first pre-season game against Munster.

“Obviously we want to build our own legacy, do well in this competition, but the main thing is to make sure that each of us can go out there at the weekend and give the best version of ourselves.”
