Barcelona goalkeeper Juan Garcia has confirmed that his move to the Catalan side directly contributed to his inclusion in Spain’s current World Cup squad.
Yesterday, June 18, Garcia completed a year since joining Barcelona after the Catalan club paid Espanyol’s management a release clause to sign the Salente son. In just 365 days, the goalkeeper became a key element and indispensable support in German coach Hans Flick’s side, where he finished the season with the Zamora Award for Best Goalkeeper before traveling to enjoy his first World Cup appearance.
The Catalan goalkeeper explained. In an interview given to Radio Catalonia.He feels a great development in several aspects of his artistic level, emphasizing his attitude to situations and challenges that he was not used to before.
Garcia said. “The experience of continuing to add minutes and playing demanding games makes you get better at everything. They put me in situations that I probably wasn’t used to on the pitch and I think I responded well.”
The goalkeeper admitted that if he had to pick one save from the season, it would definitely be the derby, as he joked:
Garcia confirmed that over the past two seasons, he has managed to improve his footwork and ball clearance, an aspect he had already started working on in his final season with Espanyol. “A few years ago this was the point I needed to improve, but that’s what training is for. I’ve improved on my decision making and getting the ball out. Obviously I will make mistakes, but I am very happy with this improvement.”
