Minnie is looking for a historic night in front of the samba dancers
Haiti coach Sébastien Mini has acknowledged the difficulty of the task ahead of his side against Brazil, but stressed his country has the courage and ambition needed to pull off an upset in the second round of the 2026 World Cup Group Three tournaments.
The Haitian national team began their participation in the tournament, which they returned to for the first time since 1974, with a hard-fought defeat by Scotland with an unanswered goal by John McGinn in the first half. Despite the loss, the Caribbean team performed with respect and almost equalized in the dying minutes when Franzdi Piero’s header hit the post in the 85th minute.
The Haitian national team are now set to face a tougher test against five-time world title holders Brazil in what could be one of the tournament’s biggest surprises if the Caribbean side manage to pull off a win.
Minnie said during the press conference, according to the agency.Reuters:“We have to run more than we did against Scotland. “We have nothing to lose in such matches, we have everything to gain.”
He added: “It’s been 52 years since Haiti last played in the World Cup and now we face Brazil. We have to live up to the expectations of our fans and give everything we have on the pitch.”
He continued. “It’s a great honor for us to be here and I hope we can make the Haitian people proud with what we represent in this tournament.”
The coach emphasized that the defeat in the first game did not affect his team’s ambitions, noting that the players proved that they deserve to be among the top teams in the world.
“We couldn’t beat Scotland but we proved we deserve the World Cup. Our goal has not changed. We are still striving to advance to the next round and present an honorable image of Haitian football.”
The coach of the Haitian national team added: “We want to prove that we deserve to fight for one of the qualification spots, even if it is by finishing third.”
“If we manage to beat Brazil, it will be a crazy event in Haiti. When you are in Haiti, you experience many challenges and difficulties, but football always gives you the opportunity to dream. Facing Brazil at the World Cup is one of those moments that any player or coach dreams of.”
