Fierce clashes broke out between some players and members of the technical staff at the BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, Canada this Friday morning, GMT, as part of Qatar’s 2026 World Cup Group B match between Canada and Qatar following the latter’s crushing 6-0 win.
Immediately after the referee’s final whistle, Qatar coach Julen Lopetegui got into an argument with his Canadian teammate Jesse Marsh, who was openly celebrating his team’s victory.

A number of elected officials intervened to eventually end the clashes.
With the win, Canada increased their lead in Group 2 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to four points on goal difference from runner-up Switzerland, while Qatar dropped to one point in fourth and last place behind third-placed Bosnia.
Annabi needs a win against Bosnia and Herzegovina to secure a clear passage to the next round, while Canada will face Switzerland in a battle for top spot.
