Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is the founder of Amazon Jeff Bezos they wanted to please themselves President Donald Trump after winning the 2024 election, and in return discredited their efforts behind their backs, according to a new book by The New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan.
Zuckerberg once posted to Trump a photo of a letter written by one of his school-age children, who wrote that he was “looking forward to the golden years of America,” a phrase that Trump repeated repeatedly at rallies during the presidency.
And after dinner at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club, Bezos mocked The Washington Post for Trump and described the newspaper as one of his biggest investments, months before he successfully sought business for the president.
These events are described in detail in the book Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trumpa copy of which WIRED obtained before its release on June 23. They show a surprising shake-up by the most powerful men in Silicon Valley to benefit Trump before his second term.
Weeks after meeting Trump, he’s still peppering his friends with stories about how Zuckerberg and Bezos are “kissing my ass,” according to the book. “You won’t believe the text I got from these tech guys. I’ve got to show you,” Trump allegedly told some guests.
The document also shows how Trump reveled in the appearance of Big Tech titans — Google’s Sundar Picchu and Apple’s Tim Cook also met with the incoming president — before disparaging their efforts.
“Think about where these guys were in 2016,” Trump says of Zuckerberg and Bezos in an interview with Elon Musk in the book. They hated me and did everything they could to bring me down.
Musk appeared to be amused by the embarrassment of his opponents, according to the publication. “Playing first class,” Musk replied.
When contacted by the book’s report, White House spokesman Kush Desai did not directly respond. “President Trump is committed to working with every American business leader and business leader to promote innovation in America, revitalize the manufacturing sector, and accelerate economic growth,” he said.
A person familiar with the shares of Bezos said that the founder of Amazon has been working with Trump in the same way that he has worked with every president since Bill Clinton, including. offering $100 million at the library of President Barack Obama, and wants to work with whoever will be in the Oval Office. A spokesman for Bezos’ Blue Origin did not respond to a request for comment. Musk and spokespeople for Meta also did not respond to requests for comment.
The book shows Trump often insulted Zuckerberg and Bezos when they tried to love him after the 2024 election – revealing, for example, the messages he received from the Meta CEO to various guests.
When Zuckerberg arrived shortly after Thanksgiving 2024, the authors wrote, Trump played the national anthem over the speakers. It soon became clear that this was not an ordinary song, but one of a group of people arrested on January 6 known as the J6 Prison Choir.
A few weeks later, according to the book, Trump showed visitors and guests some of the interesting texts that Zuckerberg sent, he stood on a photo of a “letter to the president” written by one of the three children of the Meta CEO, the oldest would have been 8 or 9 at the time.
Mr. Trump also did not care about Bezos, who is shown by Haberman and Swan as a fanatic and doubled down on Trump’s criticism of The Washington Post, as well as sending Mr. Trump a selfie showing himself with his girlfriend at the time, Lauren Sánchez, in the post.
