As Chlamovski and Flegg sit in a quiet executive area in the main stand of the Peninsula Stadium, now being repainted as the club prepares to return to its original orange colors next season, the rationale for hiring someone with no direct experience of English football is sound.
Announcing his appointment, Salford said Chlamovski has a reputation for an ‘attack-minded style that captures the fans’ imagination’. “Peter,” Salford said, “brings a fresh approach to an exciting juncture for the club.”
Yet as Chlamovski knows from Postecoglou’s experience, success outside Europe, no matter how significant, cannot impress many football fans in England.
“For me everything comes down to a belief in what you do and a belief in how you do it,” Chlamowski said.
“It’s a process-driven, evidence-based approach and you don’t waste a second of any day. If you have a mindset of getting better every day, you have a process for it and focus on how you can deliver strong team performance, the results will follow no matter where you are in the world.”
It will be interesting to know if Postecoglou spoke to co-owner Gary Neville about Salford during the World Cup as the pair are both working on the tournament for ITV Sport.
Chlamovski spoke with Postecoglou, whom he described as a mentor. A 15-year partnership with the Australian Under-17 squad began. The bond was so close, Chlamovski worked with his friend in Greece’s lower leagues as Postecoglou rebuilt his career after falling out live on air with former Australia international and TV pundit Craig Foster in 2007.
They were side by side when Brisbane won the A-League in 2011 and Australia won the Asian Cup four years later.
“I’m always in touch with him,” Chlamowski said. “He’s given good feedback on a lot of things in my coaching journey, this being one of them.”
As well as speaking exclusively to BBC Sport, as he ties up the loose ends of his national team exit after returning from Malaysia, Chlamovski’s first full day in Salford was spent dealing with administrative issues and getting to know people at the club.
He did not speak to Neville or co-owner David Beckham as part of the process.
His family will be joining him in just over a month, by which time pre-season training will be in full swing.
As Robinson finished one place off automatic promotion and was sacked despite being beaten by Notts County at Wembley, the task was clear.
“That’s what I’m here for,” he said. “I’m not here to vacation. I’m here to succeed.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge. It’s a great opportunity.
“The club has ambitions and big dreams. It’s something I’m really hungry to chase.”
