Northampton Saints return to Twickenham on Saturday, looking to be crowned champions for the second time in three seasons.
They go there after finishing top of the table, scoring more in a season than any other club. They have entertained like no other club – the rugby at the Garden this season has been breathtaking.
One more win would ensure this is a truly great era for the Saints.
Two years ago, the story was about a young squad reaching its first major final. Young, with a few notable exceptions.
One of the main narratives surrounding the final was the perfect farewell for three players who embodied the club – captain Lewis Ludlum, prop Alex Waller and, of course, the legendary Courtney Lois.
You felt there was no way these three Saints were going to lose that final.
Their absence was felt the following season – the Saints struggled to fill the leadership void as their title defense saw them finish an unfortunate eighth.
All was not lost though – the season was salvaged by a remarkable run in the Champions Cup, which saw them beat Leinster in Dublin before losing to Bordeaux in the final in Cardiff.
Despite the disappointment of that season, the Saints coach stuck to their attacking instincts. Head coach Sam Vesty will tell you the game plan has remained the same since his time at the club.
This is an oversimplification but everyone can see it – with quick, front-footed balls, the Saints backs are unstoppable.
