Bird flu kills more than 75 percent of baby seals on remote Australian island, study finds


Using data from last October and this January, scientists found that about 13,000 baby seals from a herd of 17,000 on Heard Island have been killed by H5N1 bird flu since last August, more than 75% of the herd. They also found higher-than-expected mortality in the penguin population.
