Using Humanoid With Your Body Is Hot Activity In China’s Hardware Capital


At IO-AI Tech, starting about 45 minutes north of Shenzhen, China, I saw a new phase of blue-collar work. Employees wear the company’s VR headsets, handheld controllers, and advanced fire equipment humanoid robots for workplaces such as factory floors and shopping malls. I’m a little embarrassed to say that the first thing I tried with the future tools was to get all 10 hands to flip the bird. When I got this out of my system, I was amazed at how quickly my movements transferred to the robot’s hands, and how the technology worked both ways—I could feel the ball being placed in my hands electronically.

The company also allowed me to test the system being tested by a Chinese store. Using a VR headset and grippers, I tried to pick up medicine boxes from the shelf. It was confusing at first: I had to adjust the slight difference between my movements and the robot’s that I saw through the headset. After a little practice, however, I was stacking shelves like a robot boss.

Elsewhere, I saw people wearing fancy headphones and body tracking sensors as souvenirs Ready Player One. In one large room, I saw workers using different systems to reduce the shortage Notes on Unitree humanoids. One person walked around with a Unitree robot next to them, and the machine showed their movements inside the humble building. The worker, wearing a headset and watching the scene through robot eye-type cameras, did what was necessary to remove the coat from the hanger and fold it.
