SanDisk has announced a cutback to expand the storage of the PlayStation 5. The company’s new Optimus GX PRO 850P NVMe SSD is an official PS5 upgrade with capacities ranging from 1TB to 8TB. The biggest option can store up to 200 PS5 games (based on average size) SanDisk claims, but due to lack of global memoryit will cost you $2,959.99 when it does available through the company’s online storediscount at $3,699.99.
Even if you consider Sony recent console price hikesyou can buy three PS5 Pro consoles for the price of just one of the 8TB sticks. But the smaller ones are just as expensive. The 4TB price and $1,499.99 (reduced from $1,874.99), whereas 2TB option and $759.99 (down from $949.99) — still $100 more expensive than the regular PS5.
The new SSD features an “optimized heatsink designed for the PS5 and PS5 Pro M.2 slot” and has been tested on both devices so gamers can “store more and play with confidence,” according to SanDisk. A Western Digital SSD (SanDisk’s parent brand) with similar features and a new $3,000 option is available on Amazon for $1,470. And as VGC says, according to Compare the cost of PC Part Picker, Western Digital SSD sold through retailers like Best Buy and Newegg for about $640 last year. Compared to this new SSD, it is more than 360 percent more for the same price. So where AI is which can make the game worseit also makes them more expensive to play.
