Belgium’s Wout van Aart is set to miss next month’s Tour de France with an elbow injury.

Van Aart suffered a fall in training before last week’s Tour Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes stage race in France and developed an elbow infection.
“The Tour de France is one of my main goals every year. Unfortunately, a crash in training put a spanner in the works and my elbow injury got worse and still hasn’t healed sufficiently,” said Van Aert.
According to a statement from Visma, the wound was cleaned at the hospital, where he spent “a night under observation” but it failed to heal in time.
Van Aart is often seen as almost the man of the golden age of stand-out talent and was in good form after beating four-time Tour de France champion Tadez Pogacar in Paris-Roubaix.
Visma will announce Van Art’s replacement on June 23 and the Tour de France will start in Barcelona on July 4.
