A goal with a perfect shot
Jordan made World Cup history for the first time in the current competition, but saw a rocky start to the tournament after conceding their first ever World Cup goal against Austria on Wednesday morning.
The Austrian side pulled one back for Al-Nashama in the 20th minute through Romano Schmid, who received a pass on the edge of the box before taking possession with a superb first touch and curling a perfect curling shot into the top right corner of Jordan goalkeeper Yazid Abu Laila.
Thus, Schmid became the author of the first goal conceded by the Jordanian national team in the final of the World Cup, in the first match that Al-Nashama held in the history of their participation in the World Cup.
The Jordanian team hopes to overcome the shock of the first goal and quickly return to the result, especially since achieving a positive result will give great momentum in a strong group, which also includes Argentina and Algeria.
Schmid’s goal gave Austria an early lead in the race for top spot in Group 10, which hours earlier saw Argentina beat Algeria with Lionel Messi’s signature 3-0 win.
