Al-Barghout writes history with a wonderful trilogy… and the Arab dream is delayed
The Algerian national team failed to achieve the first victory of the Arabs at the 2026 World Cup and lost 0-3 to their Argentine counterpart in the early hours of today, Wednesday, in a match where legend Lionel Messi scored 3 hat-tricks.
Algeria suffered their third Arab defeat after Tunisia lost 1-5 to Sweden, Iraq lost 1-4 to Norway and the quartet of Qatar, Morocco, Egypt and Saudi Arabia held to satisfactory draws against Switzerland, Brazil, Belgium and Uruguay respectively.
Arab hopes will be pinned on the Jordanian team, who will face their Austrian counterparts this morning.
The Argentine team rose to the first place of the 10th group with 3 points, and the Algerian team was in the last place, waiting for the outcome of the match between Jordan and Austria.
Messi scored his first hat-trick in the 2026 World Cup and topped the list of scorers from the beginning. He also scored the first hat-trick of his World Cup career, taking his tally to 16, joining Germany’s Miroslav Klose on the tournament’s all-time top scorers list.
Two goals were not conceded
The match started quickly, and the Argentine team dominated the offensive initiative. It took Messi five minutes to score against Luca Zidane after Lautaro Martinez’s cross, but the referee disallowed the goal for offside, sending fleas into the desert warriors’ ranks.

But Algeria responded in kind just 3 minutes later when Ibrahim Mazza played a superb through ball to Fares Chaibi, who fired into the narrow corner of Emiliano Martinez’s goal, but the goal was also disallowed for offside.

Argentina quickly regained control and Messi received the ball outside the penalty area and penetrated, then sent a surprise ball out of control to score an early goal in the 17th minute to complicate matters for the greens.
The defending champion dominated the match after the goal and the lead continued into the second half, with the Desert Warriors unable to break the Latin defense except for rare shots.
