The Real Madrid star has become France’s all-time top scorer
France captain Kylian Mbappe excelled, scoring twice in the second half to lead the Roosters to a thrilling 3-1 victory over Senegal on Tuesday night in the first round of the 2026 World Cup Group Nine tournament.
Real Madrid star Mbappe scored the first goal After receiving a magical pass from his partner Michael Ollis in the 66th minute, and in the 90+6th minute, he scored his second goal (third for France) with a rocket shot from outside the penalty area.
According to statistics network Opta, Mbappe is currently France’s all-time top scorer with 58 goals (99 games), overtaking the retired international Olivier Giroud with 57 goals (137 games), and Kylian can still add to his tally for the Roosters in the coming games.
Mbappe also took his World Cup goals tally to 14, becoming the Frenchman’s all-time leading scorer at the World Cup, overtaking Just Fontaine, who scored 13 goals, all once (1958 World Cup).
With this win, the Roosters’ squad show their teeth early and confirm that they will be one of the top contenders for the 2026 World Cup title after winning the 2018 World Cup title and reaching the final of the 2022 tournament.
France took their lead to 3 points at the top of Group Nine ahead of Iraq-Norway in the same group competition.
