Video: Will he fulfill his promise? Infantino surprised the Iranian football players in the dressing room

Fifa president’s strong message of support

A number of Iran’s national team players have revealed a promise made by FIFA president Gianni Infantino over complaints about deliberate restrictions on their participation in the 2026 World Cup in the United States.

Iran’s national team is in Group Seven, having held its first World Cup game to a goalless draw against New Zealand on Tuesday morning, while Egypt drew 1-1 with Belgium in the same group on Monday night.

Iran’s national team players and staff have expressed concern about travel arrangements and visa issues for delegation members.

In the announcements after the draw with New ZealandBoth Mehdi Taremi and Mohamed Moheb reported that Infantino personally visited the dressing room after the match.

The two said that the FIFA president has promised to help the team continue their journey in the World Cup.

“I know what you’re going through and I totally understand. But you are stronger than anything and you are sending a strong message to the whole world.”

Familiar interference awaiting real resolution

The intervention came after a series of complaints from the Iranian camp regarding logistical challenges during the tournament.

Coach Amir Kalinui also expressed his frustration after the game, while Tarem described the situation around the team as a “disaster” with key officials absent from the team due to the visa crisis.

Infantino had previously spoken about helping Iran in the World Cup.

Infantino’s involvement in Iran’s march to the World Cup is not new, as doubts arose over their participation at the World Cup earlier this year following US strikes on Iran.

In his World Cup opening speech in Mexico City last week, the FIFA president addressed those doubts and reiterated his support for Iran’s participation in the tournament.

He said: “I am very happy because in March I myself went to Turkey to watch the Iranian national team. People said that it is impossible for Iran to participate in the World Cup, and I promised them that they will participate, and if I go to Tehran by bus and transport them myself, I will do it.
