It’s been a year since Schlage announced its first smart lock to support ultra wideband (UWB) technology, but now it’s almost ready to buy. Starting June 29th, the Schlage Sense Pro deadbolt lock will be available for $399 in the US, allowing customers to open their doors by simply approaching them with an assistive device, rather than using keys or biometric scans.
The Sense Pro was first announced at CES 2025. It uses Schlage’s proprietary Converge UWB technology, which requires a home key on a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch to calculate your speed, direction, and movement to unlock the door when you arrive. Sense Pro is the first Schlage lock to support Matter over Thread, allowing it to connect to Thread-connected Apple Home hubs (including select Apple TV 4K models and HomePod speakers) for seamless, low-profile operation.
It is also related to opportunity – smart lock level that supports UWB and NFC tap-to-unlock. Schlage says Sense Pro is expected to support Aliro’s digital keys in Samsung Wallet and Google Wallet “later this year,” which will also allow Google and Samsung’s UWB devices to use hands-free unlocking, or tap-to-unlock over NFC.
Sense Pro also includes built-in Wi-Fi and can be controlled remotely via the Schlage Home app or the Apple Home app. It offers up to six months of battery life “with normal use,” according to Schlage, and has a USB-C port that provides temporary power if the lock stops working when its batteries run dry. Users can monitor the device’s power using the low battery indicator on the Sense Pro touchscreen.
Currently the only lock that supports hands-free Aliro UWB activation is Read U400which was set at $270 earlier this year. When my friend Jen tried Sense Pro in January 2025, he said it automatically turned on when it came close to even RF interference at the CES show. And now, after waiting for a long time, we can see if the fast hand opening works for real houses.
