UEFA Under-19 Championship: Chris Gunter names Wales squad and issues Euro 2028 challenge

Cardiff will stage the opening game of the 2028 European Championship, with Wales co-hosting alongside England, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland.

Bellamy, who is keen to lead Wales to Euro 2028, has shown his willingness to give players a chance during his two years in charge.

Among them is Dylan Lawlor, a 20-year-old defender from Cardiff City who has become a regular in the senior squad from the under-19 side and has earned six caps.

“Even thinking about a few of the guys who were in the Under-19s last season,” Gunter added.

“You look at Dylan now, who’s gone and he’s playing and I think he’s played the last four senior games.

“It can change and move really quickly.”

Arsenal defender Brayden Clarke has previously appeared in Under-17 Euro finals in 2023 and 2024 and is the first Welsh player to be selected for three Uefa youth tournaments.

“Obviously there were always some big calls and frustrating guys, not something I enjoyed too much,” added Gunter, who replaces Craig Knight as Under-19 boss.

“But I’m really pleased with the squad we’ve got now.

“It’s something that felt like it went too far for a while and then really quickly now it’s upon us.

“I know the players, you know, they can’t wait to go.”
