Who is the player?
It seems that there is no peace in the summer transfer market. Just days after Real Madrid announced their surprise signing for Marc Cucurella, Chelsea have stepped in to monitor the situation of Spanish full-back Alvaro Carreras, who could leave the Spanish capital this summer.
According to reports revealed by British journalist Simon Phillips and confirmed by Spanish newspaper AS, Carreras is on the list of names that Chelsea are exploring to strengthen the left side of the defence.
Sources have clarified that the move is still in its exploratory phase as the London club try to determine the extent of the opportunity to sign the player and his availability in the market.
New Chelsea coach Xabi Alonso is one of the most prominent supporters of the idea of including Carreras, as he knows him well from his time at Real Madrid. He also believes he will have no trouble adapting to the Premier League atmosphere, having previously played for Manchester United under-23s and spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Premier League side Preston North End.
For his part, Carreras has not yet received an official clarification regarding his future from “Real”, although the club does not consider him out of the transfer range.
The player is considered Jose Mourinho’s preferred option to compete with Cucurella, while Fran Garcia remains another candidate for this position.
This summer is expected to see the departure of one of Real Madrid’s three left-backs as part of the club’s plan to restore financial balance following a recent big spending spree.
As for Chelsea, who have included young Brazilian full-back Deener for €10m and Portugal international Giovani Quinta for €51m, they appear to be preparing for a new deal that could give Carreras a different start after a shaky first season at the Santiago Bernabeu.
