Cesar Peixoto: Portuguese named as new Wolverhampton Wanderers boss

Wolverhampton Wanderers have appointed Cesar Peixoto as head coach on a two-year deal.

The 46-year-old has arrived from Portuguese top-flight club Gil Vicente to replace Rob Edwards. He was fired last week.

Peixoto takes charge of a Wolves side who will be playing in the Championship for the first time since 2018 after finishing bottom of the Premier League last season.

Gil Vicente will be Peixoto’s first job outside Portugal in 2025-26 after finishing sixth in the Primera Liga.

His last job marks the first time he has ended his seven-year coaching career at one club.

Wolves executive chairman Nathan Shea said: “During our discussions with him it quickly became clear that he has a number of attributes that we believe are important to the future of this football club.”

“We need a clear identity, strong leadership qualities and a real hunger to succeed. Cesar has demonstrated all of these qualities, but what impressed me most was his mindset, work ethic and willingness to take on the challenge before him.”

“He is young, energetic and ambitious, but also thoughtful, responsible and willing to challenge himself and those around him in pursuit of improvement.

“We believe it will be a great fit for the culture and vision we are building at Wolves.”
