Mourinho has decided to give up the “Real” couple

Who are they?

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is pushing for 31-year-old French left-back Ferlan Mendy to leave the Bernabeu after the club are close to completing a deal to sign Chelsea’s Spaniard Marc Cucurella.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, the Special One are keen to offload Mendy, who has suffered a string of injuries since arriving in Madrid, in addition to Fran Garcia, as part of his plan to rebuild the left back line with new faces that fit his technical vision for the new project.

Real Madrid did not wait for the official opening of the summer transfer window to strengthen their ranks, with the Royals having already completed deals that included France defender Ibrahima Konate, Dutch full-back Denzel Dumfries and Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva, while close to the end of Cucurella’s contract, who Mourinho was desperate to strengthen on the left.

Cucurella’s arrival has major implications for the future of Mendy, who joined Real Madrid from French side Lyon in 2019 but has suffered a string of injuries that have limited his contributions, forcing Mourinho to look for alternatives who are more physically stable and suit his tactical style as he looks to rely on youngster Duetokur.
