“Milan” legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic believes that Moroccan star Ashraf Hakimi deserved to receive a red card today, Sunday, in the first round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup against Brazil.
Ibrahimovic, who analyzed the match on Fox Sports, said: “Hakimi recklessly interfered with Vinicius’ ankle with the bottom of his boot… When I saw the shot, my first reaction was clearly that the referee should have stepped in and sent him off.”
He added: “It’s not about the reputation of the game or playing time, it’s about player safety. The striker went past him, the danger was clear and the challenge came too late from Hakimi.”
Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic has come under fire after the 2026 World Cup clash between Morocco and Brazil, with Spanish refereeing website Archivo Far giving him a poor rating of just 3 out of 10.He considered that the Brazilian national team suffered a great injustice.
The website confirmed that Vincic failed to rise to the level of the game, stating that he made several errors of judgment that caused controversy and angered players from both teams in the draw between the Atlas Lions and the Seleção.
The report found that the referee’s most glaring error was not giving Achraf Hakimi a straight red card in the first half for a heavy tackle on Vinicius Junior, as the site believed the Moroccan full-back had stuck his boot nail on the inside of the Brazilian’s ankle, requiring a direct dismissal.
Controversy grew after Vincic did not initially call for a foul and the VAR referee did not step in to review it, in what the report described as evidence of a decline in Slovenia’s level of management of late.
