Israel’s warning on Sunday affected 29 locations – 25 in Nabatieh province and four in Sidon province – with residents told to flee north of the Zahrani river immediately.
An Israeli military spokesman said Sunday’s evacuation order included the cities of Jbaa, Houmin al-Tahta, Ansar and Kfar Sir.
Shortly after the announcement, Al Jazeera reporters reported that an Israeli plane had hit the town of Froun in Bint Jbeil province.
“Again, the focus is on the southern city of Nabatieh,” Al Jazeera’s Heidi Pett said in Beirut. “The city was big, very prosperous. Now it’s one of the only hospitals still working in the south, and it’s because of the Israeli airstrikes in the last few weeks, which has caused destruction.”
Meanwhile, there is concern in Lebanon in anticipation of the Iran-US deal, he said. After the US and Iran announced a temporary ceasefire in April, Lebanon experienced its deadliest day in the war and more than 350 people were killed.
“The last time the US and Iran agreed to a ceasefire, Israel said Lebanon was not part of the agreement and wanted to make it very clear by hitting more than 100 locations in Lebanon within 10 minutes,” Pett said. “And what’s worrying is that that’s their attitude, that they’re not part of the deal, that they’re not going to leave.”
Israel’s right-wing Defense Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, called on Sunday for Israel to destroy Hezbollah.
Ben-Gvir said a missile should be fired at any drone sent from Lebanon by Hezbollah. He also called for the death of “a thousand” Hezbollah fighters for “every hair on the head” of a wounded Israeli soldier.
Right-wing Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called for an attack on a Hezbollah stronghold south of Beirut in Dahiyeh after two drones entered Israeli territory.
“The fire to the northern areas is a test of the Dahiyeh equation that the prime minister announced,” Smotrich said, referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“I ask him to act decisively and forcefully and demolish additional buildings in Dahiyeh today. We are in difficult days to build this region for many years to come. We promised security to the people of the north, and we must deliver,” Israel National News quoted him as saying.
