Leicester City: Russell Martin close to becoming manager

Russell Martin is close to being appointed Leicester manager.

The former Scotland defender, 40, is returning to management for the first time since being sacked by Rangers in October.

This weekend was a final decision.

Leicester were interested in signing Martin before he joined Rangers last summer.

Foxx went on to hire Marty Cifuentes, who was fired in January after six months in charge.

Under interim boss Gary Rowett, Leicester suffered relegation to League One Back-to-back relegations Following their Premier League relegation in 2024-25.

They were docked six points for breaching the English Football League’s financial rules.

Martin played just 17 games at Rangers – he was fired When they were eighth in the Scottish Premiership – and they had a number of options this summer.

Martin, who has also managed MK Dons and Swansea, led Southampton to the Premier League by winning the Championship play-offs in 2023-24.

He will become Leicester’s seventh manager in just three years since the departure of Brendan Rodgers in April 2023.
