Miroslav Klose, the legend of the German national team, expected to break his record at the World Championship.
Klose is the all-time leading scorer in World Cups with 16 goals.
“I expect that my record will be broken in this World Cup match,” Klose said in a statement to the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper.
Lionel Messi has 13 goals in the World Cup, and he needs only 3 goals to equal Klose’s number, and the star of the French team, Kylian Mbappe, has 12 goals.
Klose added: “There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Lionel Messi congrats on breaking my record. I am a big Messi fan and always have been. Messi is a genius.”
He noted: “I also expect Argentina and France to go very far in the tournament, and I also have a lot of respect for tango coach Lionel Scaloni.”
He concluded. “I played with Scaloni at Lazio and he showed me a bit about the city then. We are good friends.”
