Alex Pereira completes his transition to heavyweight as he aims to become the first UFC fighter to win titles in three different divisions.
The 38-year-old Brazilian weighed 251lbs (17st 13lbs) ahead of his heavyweight debut on Sunday against Cyril Gane, who was three pounds lighter at 248lbs (17st 10lbs).
Former light-heavyweight and middleweight champion Pereira will face Frenchman Gann at the UFC’s unprecedented White House event in an interim heavyweight title fight.
Pereira became the first fighter in UFC history to become the fastest in the promotion to become a two-division champion in 2023 after fighting for a belt in a third division, accomplishing the feat in just seven fights.
Pereira is 66.4lb (4st 10.4lb) heavier at heavyweight compared to 184.6lb (13st 2.6lb). Defeated Israel Adesanya for his first UFC title at middleweight in 2022.
He has since become one of the most marketable fighters on the roster. Won the light-heavyweight belt twice and thrilled fans with his astonishing knockout power.
If Pereira defeats Gann, who has spent his entire career at heavyweight, both UFC president Dana White and lightweight champion Ilya Topuria argue that he could be considered the GOAT – Greatest of All Time.
Pereira said he has won his third title since announcing the fight with Gann in March.
“This is unprecedented and something that has never been done before,” Perera said.
“Everything I have done and achieved in my life, I have imagined, thought and seen. I am happy for such an opportunity.”
