NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers’ James Harden arrested on gun charges in Houston

Cleveland Cavaliers guard James Harden has been released from a Houston jail after being arrested Saturday morning for illegally carrying a weapon.

According to court records, Harden was detained at 03:41 local time by a police officer after a concealed handgun was spotted in the cup holder of his Mercedes.

The 36-year-old was traveling through downtown Houston when police stopped him, and the weapon was seen as Harden drove behind another car.

After the gun was confirmed to be his, Harden was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail and later released on $100 (£75) bond, with a court date set for June 22.

A six-time first-team All-NBA selection and 2017–18 league MVP (Most Valuable Player), Harden joined the Cavaliers in February as part of a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers.

He averaged 20.5 points, 7.7 assists and 4.8 rebounds in 26 starts this season with his new team.

Since entering the NBA as the third pick in the 2009 draft, Harden has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, Clippers, and Cavaliers.
