Darts World Cup: Wales, Republic of Ireland and hosts Germany advance

Wells, Jonny Clayton and Nick Kenny have continued their impressive start to the World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt, Germany.

Having to go through group qualifying after Gerwyn Price withdrew, the New Wales pair opened their campaign with a 4-1 win over Lithuania and then followed that up by defeating Thailand by the same scoreline on Friday.

The Welsh pair topped their group to book a tie against the United States at the Eissporthalle on Saturday afternoon.

Hosts Germany impressed again with a 4-2 win over New Zealand as Martin Schindler and Ricardo Pitreco secured their place in the second round where they will play the Czech Republic.

Republic of Ireland’s William O’Connor and Mickey Mansell beat Gibraltar’s Craig Galliano and Justin Hewitt 4-2 to top Group D, earning a tie against Poland.

The top nations including England, Netherlands, Northern Ireland and Scotland enter the second round of the tournament.

England pair Luke Littler and Luke Humphries – the top seeds – face Spain, while defending champions Northern Ireland’s Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney begin their title defense against Belgium.

Scotland pair Gary Anderson and Cameron Menzies take on Norway, while Netherlands pair Michael van Gerwen and Gian van Veen take on Sweden.

France finished with two matches of the round against Latvia.
