Valve just released 13 tons of VR headsets in one day

Logs show that Valve’s distribution partner Ceva unloaded about 32 tons of “Virtual Reality Devices” on behalf of Valve – or about 13 tons of virtual reality, after removing the weight of about 3,700 kilograms in five 40-meter containers.

As for the Steam Machine, Valve’s inventory may have grown to 141 tons, because that’s the amount of “Game Consoles” products that have arrived in 12,600kg containers since April 23.

And it looks like Valve may have received Steam Deck handhelds in May, two on May 18th and one on May 30th, based on how the containers had a maximum weight of 14,500kg. This is what Valve’s “Game Console” heavy duty containers were like before the Steam machine was invented.

13 tons isn’t much of a VR headset, of course, but it probably fits more into a jar than a Steam Machine console. Each weighs 654g (about 1.44lb) with two control wands; back math shows we’re probably talking about less than 20,000 units right now.

There may not be many Steam consoles in the US at the moment, either: 141 tonnes would be less than 50,000 units at their 2.6kg weight per console, not counting controllers or cables.

Valve confirmed a few days ago that both Steam Machine and Steam Frame will launch this summerand has shown that it had to reconsider prices because of Ramamagedo. Although they are cheap, they can be purchased quickly.
