2026 World Cup: BBC pundits disagree on Canada-Bosnia red card

Here’s what Rooney said: “It’s a red card. We’ve seen players go through and the whistle goes. It’s a red card.

“It’s a very dangerous game, I know he’s going to win the ball, but the follower hit him in the temple, the worst place to hit.

“He (Oluwasei) can be ruled out. He can come back in a week and delay the shock. For me it’s a clear red card.

I don’t think it’s the first time we (himself and Darren Kahn) have disagreed.

“When you see the players winning the ball, it’s with equal power. They go after it and get a red card, so it’s the same, but it’s with the hand, it’s easier to get back with your hand than your foot.”

Another member of the BBC team, former France striker Olivier Giroud, was watching both sides. He said: “As a striker I would have been disappointed if I didn’t get a penalty on that.

“On the other hand, I understand what Darren Can said, you hit the ball first and it’s difficult for him to get his hand off the striker’s head.”
