Barcelona-Catalonia Grand Prix: George Russell fastest of Oscar Piastri in first practice

Mercedes driver George Russell sets the pace from McLaren’s Oscar Piastre in first practice for the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.

Russell was 0.203s quicker than Piastre, with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in third place ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

The session was marked as part of the requirement for teams to use at least two practice sessions per year for drivers, replacing the usual six junior drivers.

McLaren’s Leonardo Fornaroli, on loan from the regular Alpine reserve driver, was fifth fastest ahead of Estonia’s Paul Aron.

Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson was seventh in the Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton, separated from teammate Arvid Lindblad by Dino Beganovic.
