Darts World Cup: Josh Rock says no pressure on reigning champions Northern Ireland – ‘all eyes will be on England’ | Darts News

Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney are reigning World Cup of Darts champions, but Rock is set to look elsewhere this year.

Northern Ireland claimed historic victory in the 2025 BetVictor World Cup of Darts after beating Wales 10-9 in a dramatic final in Frankfurt.

Rock and Gurney – seeded fourth in the tournament – broke down in tears after holding their nerve to make history for their nation.

Josh Rock and Darryl Gurney broke down in tears after winning the World Cup of Darts title after an epic last-leg decider

The pair entered this year’s tournament as third seeds and will be joined in action on Saturday by top seeds Luke Littler and Luke Humphries of England, Michael van Gerwen and Gian van Veen of the Netherlands, and fourth seeds Gary Anderson and Cameron Menzies of Scotland.

Despite being a better partnership than the rest in 2025, Rock expects all focus to be on how Littler and Humphries perform in their second World Cup.

The English world Nos 1 and 2 crashed out in dramatic second round when they lost to Germany’s Riccardo Pitreco and Martin Schindler in their debut year as a pair.

“It’s very, very hard to believe it’s already been a year,” Rock said.

Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney try to put into words how they felt after Northern Ireland won the World Cup of Darts for the first time

“It’s been a very fast year so I’m really looking forward to no pressure on me.

“I don’t know how Darryl feels because I haven’t really talked to him too much about it. I don’t want to think too much about it but I’m looking forward to defending the title.

“Obviously everyone is talking about England. Last year, nobody really thought anything was going to happen but Luke was going to win it.

“So, maybe the same feeling this year, maybe even more so this year, because it didn’t happen last year so they won’t let it happen again.”

While Littler and Humphries are clear favorites once again, many expect them to be a different force this time around, with Rock insisting the pair play a very different game.

In fact, he puts his and Gurney’s success down to the fact that they work so much together behind the scenes that it just clicks.

“You don’t know if they’re going to click again. Pairs is a completely different game than singles, so it’s up to them to obviously get a kick up the backside to work together. So it’s up to them,” he added.

Germany stunned pre-tournament favorites England in the second round of the Darts World Cup, with Luke Littler and Luke Humphries crashing out.

“Everyone else just needs to think about themselves.

“I think it really helps a lot if you have a very close partnership. It probably takes the pressure off each person.
A lot and obviously me and Daryl do a lot behind the scenes together, so that helps a lot.

“They’re always going to be top two because they’re No. 1 and No. 2 in the world.

“It’s always going to be between the two of them and rightly so because they’re the ones doing the business at the moment.

“Hopefully me and Daryl can obviously sneak up and obviously win again.”
